World loves Canada, says survey |

By Archie D'Cruz » People
around the globe think the world of Canada, according to a major
multinational survey. The study, which polled more than 25,000 people
worldwide on issues including a country's appeal as a place to migrate
to, gave Canada top rank for hospitality, tourism and friendliness.
Canada also won high marks for politeness and honesty in government in
the annual Anholt Nation Brands Index study. In an interesting twist,
the results showed that for the first time, even Americans rated their
own country in second place for governance, ranking Canada first.
Overall, Canada ranked third, behind the United Kingdom and Switzerland, in the study which rates countries according to their "brand power". Considerations that decide ranking include people’s perceptions across six areas of national competence: Investment and Immigration, Exports, Culture and Heritage, People, Governance and Tourism.
Results of the survey, which covers 35 nations with the most powerful brand image, are useful tools for governments to employ in tourism, foreign policy and economics, according to survey developer Simon Anholt, a British-based author and branding expert.
The survey shows the world has a “beautiful, impeccable” image of Canada, Anholt said.
“The Canadians are everybody’s favourite friend. In fact, there’s quite a few countries that would rather have Canadians as a friend than someone from their own country,” he added.
