Harper to take charge on February 6 |

Stephen Harper and his Conservative cabinet will be sworn in on Monday,
February 6. The date was set when the prime minister-designate met
Governor General Michaelle Jean on January 26 to officially confirm
that he will be forming the next government.
Harper has been meeting with his transition team to discuss dates for a handover of power from outgoing Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin and when he might call Parliament back into session.
The new leader's cabinet team remains a closely guarded secret. Diane Ablonczy, a US-born MP who represents the Alberta riding of Calgary-Nose Hill, is believed to be the front-runner for the Immigration portfolio. However some reports are also linking the senior MP, one who Harper clearly respects, to other critical posts like Health, Human Resources Development and even Deputy Prime Minister.
Ablonczy has been on the citizenship and immigration committee for many years. She has been an outspoken critic on immigration issues, including the problem with recognizing foreign credentials.
